Cranberry Institute Launches Web Site

Health benefits of cranberry highlighted

September 18, 2000 -- Health-conscious consumers can find answers to their questions about the benefits of eating cranberry products on a new web site launched today by the Cranberry Institute.

Nutritionists and the medical community believe there is a clear association between a diet high in fruits and vegetables and low risk of chronic disease. Cranberries are a good choice for the health-conscious consumer because they are a functional food powerhouse, packed full of antioxidants, nutrients and other natural compounds which promote health and wellness.

Cranberries have properties that protect our bodies against certain kinds of bacteria, including pathogenic E. coli associated with urinary tract infections. In addition, cranberries contain potent phytonutrients that have been implicated in the prevention of cancer and heart disease.

Web site topics include the relationship between cranberry consumption and urinary tract health, and preliminary results relating to anti-cancer, cardiovascular health and other health concerns.

Selected cranberry recipes and cranberry industry and research links are also listed.
